Quick Update

Blogger has not let me access this blog for a long time.  There was some sort of glich with my browser.
So much has transpired since my last post. I plan to detail some of it but here are a few highlights.
)In January, I was blessed with a brand new granddaughter. She is the little sister of my adorable Mancub. Praise God!
2)My oldest daughter is expecting to give birth to a new daughter any minute now. Praise God! God has blessed me with another granddaughter!
3)We paid off the mortgage on our house.
4)My longest run so far is 12 miles
5) I have run over 800 miles this year.
6) My sister is running now. She is up to 5 mile runs.
7)I ran in Cades Cove!!!!!
8)Sadly, we lost my Uncle Ray to COPD in March.
There are many, many more but I will stop here for now.I could name our blessings one by one and it would take forever. It would be easier to count the sand on the shore.
I am reading a fasinating book about the brain and exercise. The title is "Spark".
I am very happy to be able to post again!
I love blogging.

3 Mile Run With A Wee bit of pain

 3 miles at hubby's workplace track  35.23   11:47 pace
64 degrees and cloudy(post storm)

I only had a wee bit of pain in the muscle or whatever that runs from my inside left ankle up the side of my calf.

I need to fit in a run tomorrow if my body will let me because the baby will be born any second.  I will be keeping the grandbaby while my daughter is in the hospital and will not run.

Running Again!!

In my last blog post I explained that I experienced some problems and that I was taking a rest day.  Well....I ended up having to take off for 5 rest days.  I waited until my ankle and  the backs of my heels were pain free.

I had a wonderful run tonight at the outdoor track.  I ran 5.13, 1:03.39    This works out to 12 something a mile.

My hubby ran the first lap with me.  It was the first time in a while for him as he has been nursing a knee injury.  I hope he remains pain free.

Blessings to all!

Last Nights Run

Yesterday, I did not think I was going to be able to run due to other committments.  I had run for two days straight. Since I am a newbie runner, I think I am only supposed to run every other day. I love to run, though and got a little carried away.

Yesterday was a beautiful, sunny day. It was perfect for the baby to get some fresh air and sunshine. Since I didn't think I was going to run, I decided to make a workout including the baby(mancub).  I put him in his wagon and pulled him up and down hills for 40 minutes nonstop.  I walked forward with both hands behind me holding the wagon handle. It was a great workout.  I worked and he was out!  Surprisingly, I have a couple of muscles in my arms that let me know they are there.  They are just whispering, but they are there.

My hubby surprised me by saying that he would like to walk at the track after work.  He was working late, therefore  I was not expecting this.  I was pleasantly surprised and quickly agreed to his plan. I changed into my running clothes so I would be ready when he arrived home.

After driving into town, we arrived the track.  The first three miles were fine.  Then I began having a pain that seemed to radiate from the inside of my left ankle up into the inside of my calf muscle.  That had happened once before a few weeks ago.  I found that I could run backwards for about 20 feet and it wouldn't hurt for awhile.  About a half mile later, I would have to run backwards again and then be ok for awhile.  In the last half mile I got another stitch in my side.  Sometime in that last mile, my right heel began to hurt.  This has happened before with both heels.  Today they are sore.  I am not sure what causes this but I used to have this problem when I danced alot. I am thinking that when I worked out on the hills earlier, it made them vulnerable to strain for my run later that night. This was the first time that my legs were a little sore after running. Again, I am sure it was the workout I did earlier in the day that set me up to be sore. :) I also ran 3 days in a row.  I did that before with no problem but I wasn't running as far as I am now.  5 miles is a long way for me even though many people run much, much further.

It was a wonderful 5 mile run. I did have a couple of problems but it was a great run!

I am taking a rest day to rest these heels of mine as they are very sore.

Hubby is still walking while he nurses his knee injury.  I am so proud of him for sticking with the walking when I know he wants to run.

Oh yeah, today he bought me a pair of running gloves, a long sleeve tech shirt, a short sleeve tech shirt and a tech hoodie!  We found a great deal on them!  I am so excited to be building my running wardrobe as I am building my miles.  I have the best hubby in the whole wide world!

Keep running!

Running Cold

I had a great run tonight even though it was so cold!  It was not a planned run.  Hubby is nursing an injured knee and he felt the need to walk.  We decided to meet at his office and then go the track for a workout.

I ran only 3 miles but I ran it almost 2 minutes per mile faster than my regular pace.  Yesterday , I shaved 7 minutes off a 5 mile run.

It was cold, crisp and 41 degrees.  I could have kept running after 3 miles of course, but I had decided ahead of time to keep it to 3 miles.  My heels were bothering me a bit and I do NOT want to injure myself.  Remember, I am still a newbie.

There were a few people running tonight, probably due to the cold.  Yes, 41 is very cold for us tropical orchids in the South. Thank God for coldgear!  I was reading a blog post tonight where one girl was running in 10 degree weather. I am sure 41 would be like a summer day to her.  It really is all about what you compare.

Afterwards we went out to dinner for baked chicken with tons of vegetables and a piece of cornbread.  YUM YUM!

I love Running!

I am still working on this blog as it is new.  Please bear with me.  :)

This has been a very interesting week of running.  First the bulldog I met on the trail and then the snake by the river. And then there was the prisoner today! But I am beginning at the end. So let me recap just a bit.

Hubby and I began running 12 weeks ago using the couch to 5 k program.

When I first began, I thought I would die just running 60 seconds.  Now I can run 5 miles.  I am slow, mind you, but I can run 5 miles.  I read some of your blogs as you record your marathons and ultras.  I realize that 5 miles is piddly.  However, I never thought in a million years that I could even run 1/2 mile.

My sweet Hubby has a knee injury and is seeing the chiropractor.  He is not able to run at the moment.  I have told him that when he begins to run again, I will train with him while he builds back up, in addition to my regular training. In the meantime, he goes with me and walks. I try to remain in his sight by running ahead of him and then running back past him.  He teases me about running circles around him. I really miss running with him.

I plan to write a more detailed introduction in a later post.

My love for, and faith in the God of Israel is the most important thing to me. I strive to serve Him daily and to honor Him in all that I do. I fail miserably every day but He loves me and forgives me in spite of it all.  Next on the list, is my family.

Running has done wonderful things for me.  Most of all it is just plain fun.  I am thankful that I have found this wonderful sport.

So far, running trails is my favorite.  I love to run in the woods along the river.  It has its challenges, mind you!  Saturday, I ran a little side trail away from hubby and I was surprised by a bulldog!  This was 53 minutes into my run so I thought I was tired.....until I saw the bulldog.  I sprinted back to hubby in record time.

Strangely enough, toward the end of my run on Sunday, I was running by the river and saw a huge ugly snake!  By the time I saw it, it was too late to stop or go around it.  So...I jumped it!  I am very thankful that I was not bitten.  We do have snakes in Alabama on sunny January days but thankfully they move very slowly when it is a bit colder.

Today, I ran at the track on base. I had a bad experience with a prisoner that was mowing the grass..er dirt!  Again, this was close to the end of a run.  I had to sprint very fast to outrun the dirt and rocks that were being sprayed on me by the mower.  ARG!  This made for very difficult breathing.  The humidity was already at 80%  Is it just me or does high humidity make it harder to breathe when one runs?
